Sponsored walk
Hello, this past weekend I have attended the trade show held in conjunction with the funeral directors at Stoneleigh near Kenilworth. I spent Saturday morning helping a fellow assessor man the BRAMM stand. We spoke to masons and explained the BRAMM scheme and how it is administered, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a generally encouraging attitude amongst those I talked to.
The rest of the time I spent wandering around the exhibition trying to get corperate sponsorship for a walk that I am doing this Summer in aid of the Amala trust a Boy’s home and a Girl’s home in the Tamil Nadu region of India. This is a granite producing area but also quite poor, the Amala trust give over three hundred Girls and Boys a wonderful start in life providing not only shelter and care but also an education.
I must be honest though and tell you that I did not much care for the role of fundraiser I found it more than a little awkward and depressing asking for money from strangers, still I did manage to raise £500 plus and I am very grateful to all who donated.
The walk, which incidentally, is also attempting to raise money for the Macmillan Fund will be starting on the 31st of July in Prestatyn on the North Wales coast and I will be following the Offer’s Dyke path all the way to the Seven Estuary in the South. This should take me around twelve days so I hope to finish on the 11th of August.
I will be traveling alone and unsupported and will be camping on route. One or two people have asked to tag along on the odd day and that would be great, as it is a little daunting to think of walking 184 miles without some company. But then again as the saying goes, if you can’t take a joke you shouldn’t have joined up….
sponsored you for the walk in the post office.
All the best well done!!!!!
